GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 10, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- As teachers gear up for back-to-school season, Meijer is making it a little easier by offering a 15 percent discount on classroom essentials to teachers across the Midwest, its largest back-to-school discount ever.

Items available for the discount range from spiral notebooks and schoolroom essentials like Crayola, Elmer's Glue, Sharpies and Post-It Notes to planners and journals, memo boards and even popular branded and stylized backpacks like JanSport, Nike, Under Armour and Adidas. Teachers are also able to stack their mPerks Rewards with the 15 percent discount and take advantage of additional price drops on more than 300 items as part of Meijer's everyday back-to-school savings.
Teachers can get the discount by presenting a current school ID at their local Meijer Customer Service desk and will receive a coupon. The coupon can only be used for purchases made in-store and some restrictions apply. Teachers can take advantage of the coupon repeatedly by obtaining a new one any time they return to Meijer throughout the back-to-school shopping season.

Aside from those surprise hardware updates, Apple is promoting its traditional limited time back-to-school offer for qualifying higher-education students, parents purchasing on behalf of higher-education students, and faculty and staff at both higher-education and K-12 institutions. Broadly speaking, earlier starts are more common in the South and Southwest: In a rough band of 13 states stretching from Arizona to Florida and up to South Carolina, 79% of the districts we examined will be back in school by the end of this week. Later starts are more common along the East Coast (from Maine to North Carolina), the upper Midwest (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan) and the Northwest (Oregon and Washington).
All told, 124 of the districts in our sample (representing 29% of students) are starting school between Aug. 12 and Aug. 16, making it the most popular start week. Another 74 districts (with 14% of students) went back earlier this summer; 93 (19% of students) will start up again next week.
After three disrupted school years in a row, a return to normalcy means back-to-school shopping is back. As a result, brands are pulling out all the stops to market school supplies, fashion and, increasingly, beauty.
While fashion has long been a back-to-school pillar, beauty brands have also caught on to the shopping period that generally begins in August for teens, tweens and college-bound young adults. According to data from the National Retail Federation, expected back-to-school spending has surged in 2022, up 40.6% per family for kindergarten through 12th-grade students and 35.5% for college students, compared to 2019.
NRF also found that inflation is front-of-mind for consumers, with 42% of back-to-school shoppers surveyed saying they are searching for sales in 2022, compared to 30% in 2019. In addition, 43% are doing more comparative shopping online, an increase from 28% in 2019.
The Dollar General is offering a very generous discount of 20% to teachers on stationery supplies when a valid school ID is provided. This discount is available throughout 44 states in the U.S. at more than 15,000 locations from now through September 7, 2019.
Office Depot is offering 20% back in store rewards on qualifying in-store purchases when teachers provide a coupon, valid school ID and reward number upon checkout from now until September 28, 2019. The coupon is available at www.officedepot.com/teachers.
Parents can also help support teachers through Staples' Classroom Rewards program, which gives a percentage of their qualifying purchase made at a Staples store back to an enrolled teacher or school administrator of their choice, according to the company.
Dollar General is offering teachers a 30% discount on back-to-school supplies until Sept. 6. Teachers can use the discount after signing up for a Dollar General account, completing a teacher verification process and waiting 24 to 48 hours.
